City Shine Foundation’s biggest, first and most important project is school supplies.
Without proper school supplies it’s virtually impossible to provide a meaningful education.
Compared to Europe or North-America, school supplies are considerably cheaper in Kenya.
However, even though the materials are cheaper in Kenya, the vast majority cannot afford to attend public schools.
There are some mandatory items a students needs in order to go to a public school. Think of a school bag, pen or exercise books.
Schools in slum areas are not recognized by the Kenyan Government as proper education centers and are therefore not eligible for subsidy. This means that all school fees have to be paid by the parents.
Families with lower incomes suffer from this and cannot afford the tuition fee, let alone the study materials.
